The Station Museum offers a captivating glimpse into the history and heritage of Paekākāriki, showcasing collections that celebrate both the local community and the broader Kapiti Coast region. Located at the south end of the Station Museum, the Kakariki Book Shop is a haven for book lovers and history enthusiasts alike. The shop features an impressive collection of local history books, fiction, and other educational materials, providing the perfect spot to take home a piece of Paekākāriki’s rich literary culture.

The Station Museum has a range of souvenirs and books available for purchase.

The museum is operated with the help of dedicated volunteers, who play a crucial role in its day-to-day operations. Our volunteer hosts are available during opening hours to offer insights and assistance, ensuring every visitor has an informative and enjoyable experience.

Governance

The Paekākāriki Station Precinct Trust (PSPT) was officially registered as a charitable trust on 13th August 1993 (Charitable Trust No. 588370, Charities Services Number CC26821).

The Trust was established with trustees appointed from various key organizations, including:

  • Steam Incorporated
  • Tranz Rail Ltd
  • Kapiti Historical Society
  • Two publicly elected community trustees
  • Paekākāriki Business Association
  • Kapiti Coast District Council
  • Paekākāriki Māori Committee

The mission of the Paekākāriki Station Precinct Trust (PSPT) is:
